Mahalo for believing in our Mission..
The HOPENA Foundation was created to honor a legacy rooted in hope, resilience, and community. As a growing nonprofit, we are committed to building opportunities that uplift families and invest in the next generation.
Every contribution remains in Hawaiʻi — directly supporting our mission and helping bring initiatives like our upcoming multi-sport fundraising event to life. The funds raised will allow us to award scholarships to deserving students, opening doors to education, growth, and possibility.
Your support is more than a donation. It is a partnership to preserve legacy, strengthen community, and turn hope into meaningful action.
Together, we are building something lasting.
COURSE DETAILS
The Pōhaku x Pena Challenge is HOPENA Foundation's inaugural endurance event — a race that tests not just the body, but the spirit. Participants will take on a challenging course through the waters and streets of Lanikai, beginning with a 1.2km swim, followed by a 7km paddle, and concluding with a 5km run. Along the way, athletes will navigate open ocean waters, iconic landmarks including Popoia Island and the Mokulua Islands, and the winding streets of Lanikai, all while embodying the values of endurance, humility, and aloha that define the Hawaiian waterman and water woman tradition.
This event is more than a race. It is a tribute to Hopena, and a living continuation of the legacy he left behind — a legacy built on resilience, community, and a deep connection to the ocean. Every participant who crosses the finish line becomes part of that story.
